History:  Jaguar entered f1 in 1997 as the Stewart team. The team was headed by Jackie Stewart a former driver with a great past of twenty seven GP. wins and three times world champion, 1969 with Matra-Ford 1971 and 1973 with Tyrrel-Ford.

The team had a Ford engine and Rubens Barrichello and Jan Magnussen as drivers. In the fifth round at Monaco Barrichello finished second, but the rest of the season saw many retirements due to reliability problems.

1998 saw the reliability problems continue, Jan Magnussen was replaced during the year by Dutch driver Jos Verstapen but the year continued badly and Barrichello finished with only four championship points.

1999 saw an improvement in the Stewart's team reliability and performance, now with the pairing of Rubens Barrichello and Johnny Herbert Stewart scored points in the first round at Melbourne with Barrichello finishing fifth, and then in San Marino finishing third. Round fourteen saw Stewart's best ever result when Herbert finished first and Barrichello finished third.

Stewart finished the year with 36 points which put them fourth in the constructors title just ahead of Williams, Rubens Barrichello finished the year with twenty one points and Johnny Herbert finished with fifteen points putting them seventh and eighth in the drivers championship.

Jaguar took over the team for the 2000 season, they signed Eddie Irvine from Ferrari and paired him with Herbert, the cars were changed from white to British racing green. The season was not a good one for them, both cars failed to finish in the first two races, and it was not until the seventh round that the team scored it's first points when Irvine finished fourth. Irvine did not score another point until the last round when he finished sixth, Herbert failed to score a single point all season, his best result was seventh in round ten and sixteen. Irvine finished equal thirteenth with four points in the drivers championship, the team finished ninth in the constructors.

2001. Johnny Herbert has now left the team and it seems the end of the road for his formula one career, he may be heading for America to drive in Cart racing. The driver line up for this year was Eddie Irvine and last years test driver Luciano Burti, but after the fourth round Luciano Burti was replaced by test driver Pedro De La Rosa, and test driver Tomas Scheckter was sacked by the team after round five following a court appearance not related to racing.  After the Hungarian GP. Bobby Rahal Team Principal left after reported disagreements with other team members and was replaced by Niki Lauda. The season was not a good one for Jaguar, they finished the season eighth in the constructors championship with Irvine finishing =12th in the drivers championship and De La Rosa finishing 16th.

The driver line up remains the same this year but early testing of the new car has not gone well and some re-designing of the front wing has had to be done, the pressure is now really on the team to get the results that are needed for a cash strapped Ford Motor Company to keep putting in the money, will they get the results? watch this space!..
